Orthodontic Costs in Seoul: What Drives Your Fee
Orthodontic fees in Seoul depend on case complexity, the appliance you choose, how long treatment takes and your retention plan. At Isu Yonsei Baro Orthodontics, Dr. Sally Chaekyung Lee examines you first and then gives you a written estimate in English, so you know what is included before you decide.

What drives the cost of orthodontic treatment
No two bites are the same, which is why a fair fee cannot be quoted from photos alone. Four factors shape most orthodontic estimates in Seoul.
1. Case complexity
Mild spacing or a few rotated front teeth is a very different job from severe crowding, a deep bite, impacted canines or a skeletal discrepancy. Complex cases may need temporary anchorage devices (TADs), more appointments or coordination with jaw surgery. See crowded teeth and deep bite .
2. Appliance type
Metal braces, ceramic braces, lingual braces, Invisalign and Angel Aligner each carry different laboratory, material and chairside costs. Lingual braces are custom-made for the back of the teeth, for example. Compare options on our treatments page or read Invisalign vs braces .
3. Treatment duration
Limited front-teeth treatment may take months, while most comprehensive cases typically take roughly 12–30 months. Longer treatment generally means more adjustment visits. Timing is an estimate, not a promise; individual results vary. Learn more about limited treatment .
4. Retainers and retention
Keeping teeth straight after braces or aligners is part of the plan. Ask whether fixed and removable retainers, retention check-ups and replacement retainers are included in your estimate. See retainers and retention .
What to expect at Isu Yonsei Baro: your written English estimate
Your first visit takes about 60 minutes. We take digital scans with an intraoral scanner (no goopy impressions), X-rays or a 3D CBCT scan on our RAY Quantum 5D CT, and photos. Dr. Lee examines your teeth, bite and jaw, then explains the findings, your options and a likely timeline in English.
Before you decide anything, you receive a written estimate in English. It typically sets out:
- The recommended appliance and any alternatives discussed
- The estimated treatment duration and visit frequency
- What the fee covers, such as appliances, adjustment visits and records
- Retainers and the retention phase
- Items that may be charged separately, if any
- Payment schedule options
In Dr. Lee's practice, the estimate is discussed line by line so that patients who may relocate, or who need to claim from an overseas insurer, understand exactly what each item means.
Why we do not publish prices
Fees depend on your diagnosis, so a price list would not reflect your case. We would rather give you an accurate written estimate after an examination than a number that changes later.
Common cost questions
Korean National Health Insurance and orthodontics
Korean National Health Insurance (NHI) generally does not cover orthodontic treatment. Coverage is typically limited to specific cases, such as some cleft-related or surgical orthodontic cases, and eligibility rules apply. Because policies change, we recommend confirming your situation at your consultation. Read more in Korean insurance and braces for foreigners .
Private or overseas insurance plans vary widely. Some reimburse part of orthodontic fees, often with age limits or lifetime caps, so check with your insurer before starting.
Payment and English receipts
Your written estimate explains the payment schedule for your treatment. We can provide documents in English to support a claim with your insurer:
- English receipts
- Itemized statements
- Medical certificates
- Doctor's letters describing your diagnosis and treatment
Ask your insurer which documents and codes they need, and tell us early so we can prepare them. See insurance receipts and claim documents and claiming braces on overseas insurance .
FAQ
Orthodontic cost questions
How much do braces or Invisalign cost in Seoul?
Fees vary with case complexity, appliance type, treatment duration and retention. Isu Yonsei Baro Orthodontics does not publish set prices; Dr. Lee examines you first and then provides a written estimate in English. For general context, read our answers on braces cost in Seoul and Invisalign cost in Korea.
Can you give me a price from photos?
No. A reliable fee depends on scans, X-rays or CT and a clinical exam of your teeth, bite and jaw. Photos cannot show root position, bone or how your jaws relate. After your roughly 60-minute first visit, you receive findings, options, a timeline and a written estimate in English before deciding.
Does Korean National Health Insurance cover orthodontics?
Generally not. Korean NHI typically covers orthodontics only in limited cases, such as some cleft-related or surgical orthodontic cases, and eligibility rules apply. Most orthodontic treatment for alignment or bite correction is self-paid. Confirm your situation at consultation, and see Korean insurance and braces for foreigners.
What does the written estimate include?
The estimate typically covers the recommended appliance, estimated duration, what the fee includes such as adjustment visits and records, retainers and retention, anything charged separately and the payment schedule. Dr. Lee goes through it with you in English so every item is clear before you start.
Can I get English receipts for my insurance claim?
Yes. We can provide English receipts, itemized statements, medical certificates and doctor's letters. Ask your insurer which documents and codes they require, then let us know so we can prepare them. Details are on our insurance receipts page.
Are retainers included in the fee?
It depends on your treatment plan, which is why retainers and the retention phase are listed in your written estimate. Ask about fixed and removable retainers, retention check-ups and replacement costs at your consultation. See retainers and retention.
