Invisalign in Seoul with an English-Speaking Orthodontist
Quick answer
Invisalign at Isu Yonsei Baro Orthodontics is planned and supervised by Dr. Sally Chaekyung Lee, a Ministry of Health and Welfare–certified orthodontic specialist, Invisalign instructor and 2026 Invisalign Purple Diamond provider. She reviews every digital plan herself, explains it in English, and follows you from the first scan to retention. Many comprehensive aligner cases typically take about 12–24 months.
How Invisalign works
Invisalign moves teeth with a series of removable, clear plastic aligners. Each set is worn for one to two weeks and makes a small, planned change. Small tooth-colored attachments and, in some cases, light elastics help the aligners grip and steer teeth toward the planned position.
The aligners are only as good as the plan behind them. Software proposes movements, but an orthodontist has to decide which movements are biologically realistic, how roots and bone will respond, and how the result will look in the whole face.
Who Invisalign tends to suit
- Adults and teens with mild to moderate crowding or spacing
- Many deep bite, open bite and crossbite cases, after examination
- Relapse after earlier braces
- People who travel often and prefer fewer emergency visits (no brackets to break)
- Patients who are disciplined about wearing aligners almost all day
Some complex skeletal problems or severe rotations may be better treated with braces or a combined approach. That decision is made after records, not from photos.
Invisalign compared with braces
| Invisalign | Fixed braces | |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Nearly invisible | Visible (metal or ceramic) |
| Eating | Remove aligners to eat | Avoid hard, sticky foods |
| Compliance | Depends on daily wear | Works full-time automatically |
| Emergencies while traveling | Rare | Possible loose brackets or wires |
What to expect at Isu Yonsei Baro
Your first visit takes about 60 minutes. We take an intraoral digital scan, X-rays or a RAY Quantum 5D CT scan, and a RAY Face 3D facial scan. Dr. Lee examines your teeth, bite and jaw, then explains your options, a likely timeline and a written estimate in English before you decide anything.
Dr. Lee then edits the digital treatment plan herself rather than accepting the default software setup. In Dr. Lee's practice, aligner plans are checked against the CT so that roots stay within bone, and against the face scan so the final smile fits your lips and profile, an approach shaped by her training at Yonsei University and her background in fine art.
Because the clinic is a one-minute walk from Isu Station Exit 2 with evening hours on Mondays and Thursdays and Saturday mornings, check-ins fit around work and school. If you travel or relocate, we can issue extra aligner sets where appropriate and prepare complete English records for an orthodontist abroad.
Costs and insurance
Invisalign fees depend on case complexity, the number of aligners and expected duration, so we cannot quote from photos. You receive a written estimate after the exam. Orthodontic treatment is generally not covered by Korean National Health Insurance, but some overseas plans reimburse part of the cost, and we provide English receipts, itemized statements and doctor's letters for claims.
Individual results and side effects vary; treatment is decided after examination.

Frequently asked questions
How long does Invisalign take in Seoul?
It depends on what needs to move. Minor front-teeth alignment can take around six months, while comprehensive cases commonly take about 12–24 months. Dr. Lee gives you an estimated timeline at your first visit after reviewing your scans and CT, and progress is checked at each appointment. These are typical ranges, not promises.
Is Dr. Lee really a certified Invisalign provider?
Yes. Dr. Sally Chaekyung Lee is Invisalign certified, teaches Invisalign as an instructor for university hospitals, and is a 2026 Invisalign Purple Diamond provider. More importantly, she is an orthodontic specialist certified by Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare, so your plan is designed by a specialist rather than a general dentist.
Can I continue Invisalign if I leave Korea?
Often yes. We plan around your departure date, can provide additional aligners when clinically appropriate, and prepare complete English records, including scans and progress notes, so an orthodontist in your new country can continue care. Tell us your timeline at the consultation so the plan reflects it.
Does Invisalign hurt?
Most people feel pressure or tenderness for a day or two when switching to a new aligner set, which usually settles quickly. Attachments can feel rough at first. Over-the-counter pain relief is often enough, and the clinic also has NovaCare, a device intended to reduce orthodontic discomfort. Experiences vary from person to person.
