Representative director · Lead orthodontist
Dr. Sally Chaekyung Lee, DDS, PhD
Dr. Sally Chaekyung Lee is an orthodontic specialist certified by Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare and the representative director of Isu Yonsei Baro Orthodontics in Seoul. She holds a PhD in orthodontics from Yonsei University, trained at Severance Hospital, is a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, and treats every patient herself, in fluent English.
Scientifically precise, aesthetically refined
For Dr. Lee, orthodontics starts with aligning teeth and ends with a smile that suits a whole face. Every plan is built on an exact diagnosis — teeth, bite, roots, jaw structure and soft tissue, recorded with 3D CT, a 3D facial scan and intraoral scanning — and then refined for the balance between teeth, lips and face.
That eye for proportion has a long history. Before dentistry, she studied in the Seoul Arts Center's gifted art program (2001–2005), and she held a solo exhibition, Feast of Symposion , in 2023. In her practice, the same habit of close observation is applied to small differences in tooth position, lip support and smile line that change how a result looks in real life.
One doctor, start to finish
Dr. Lee examines, plans and treats each patient herself, from the first consultation to the day the appliances come off and through retention. For international patients this also means every explanation — diagnosis, options, risks and costs — comes directly from the orthodontist in English.
Research that informs everyday treatment
Dr. Lee has published four SCI(E)-indexed papers. Two connect directly to how she treats patients:
- Non-extraction treatment: “New TSAD-based systems expanding the scope of distalization: Clinical insights and applications” ( Seminars in Orthodontics ) — how temporary anchorage devices can move molars backward to create space without extracting teeth, where appropriate. Non-extraction orthodontics
- Surgical orthodontics: “Relationship between Preoperative Maxillomandibular Transverse Discrepancy and Post-Surgical Stability in Class II Malocclusion” ( Applied Sciences , 2024) — why correcting upper and lower jaw width before surgery matters for stability. Orthodontics with jaw surgery
She has also contributed to research on medical electrode materials ( Biomaterials , 2012), measurement accuracy in medical imaging (IFMBE Proceedings, 2011) and AI-based image analysis (AACR Annual Meeting poster, 2026).
