Orthodontic Second Opinion in Seoul, in English
Quick answer
If you already have an orthodontic treatment plan or quote, in Korea or abroad, a second opinion can help you understand it before you commit. At Isu Yonsei Baro Orthodontics, Dr. Sally Lee, a Ministry of Health and Welfare–certified orthodontic specialist, reviews your plan with her own exam and 3D records and explains, in English, where she agrees and where options differ.
When a second opinion is worth it
Orthodontic treatment is a commitment of time, money and, sometimes, irreversible steps such as extractions or jaw surgery. Getting a second opinion is common practice and can be especially useful when:
- You have been told you need extractions and want to know if alternatives exist
- Jaw surgery has been recommended
- Two clinics have suggested very different plans or timelines
- A plan was explained in a language you are not fully comfortable with
- Treatment in progress is not going as expected
- You are comparing a plan from your home country with options in Seoul
Questions a second opinion can answer
- What exactly is the diagnosis, and is it skeletal, dental or both?
- Are extractions necessary, or could space be created another way?
- Is the proposed appliance suitable for this type of movement?
- Is the timeline realistic, including for your stay in Korea?
- What does the quote include, such as retainers, refinements and records?
What to bring
- The written plan or quote you received
- Any X-rays, CT scans or photos, digital copies are fine
- Aligner simulations or treatment summaries if you have them
- Your expected dates in Korea, if you may relocate
What to expect at Isu Yonsei Baro
Dr. Lee carries out her own full assessment rather than relying only on the documents you bring. The visit takes about 60 minutes and includes an intraoral digital scan, X-rays or a RAY Quantum 5D CT and a RAY Face 3D facial scan. She then walks you through her findings in English, explains how her view compares with the plan you have, and gives a written estimate if you want one.
In Dr. Lee's practice, second opinions focus on the reasoning behind a plan rather than on criticizing another clinician: two orthodontists can reasonably choose different paths, and her aim is for you to understand the trade-offs clearly enough to make your own decision. Her experience as a clinical professor at Yonsei University and a 2026 peer reviewer for AJO-DO shapes how she evaluates evidence for each option.
If you are already in treatment elsewhere, she will not suggest changing providers unless there is a clear clinical reason, and will tell you if your current plan looks sound. If you decide to continue with your current provider, you leave with a clearer understanding of your diagnosis and the questions worth asking.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a second opinion on a plan from another country?
Yes. Bring the written plan, any X-rays or CT scans and photos you have. Dr. Lee performs her own exam and records, then explains in English how her assessment compares with the plan you received, including whether the approach and timeline make sense for your time in Korea.
Will Dr. Lee tell me if my current plan is fine?
Yes. The purpose of a second opinion is to give you a clear, independent view. If Dr. Lee agrees with your current plan, she will say so. If she sees a different option, she explains why and what the trade-offs are, without disparaging the other clinician. The decision remains yours.
I was told I need extractions. Can I avoid them?
Sometimes. Depending on your bone, face and amount of crowding, space can occasionally be created with molar distalization, arch development or enamel reshaping. In other cases extractions do give a better result. Dr. Lee, who has published on non-extraction distalization, explains which applies to you after examining you.
Do I need to bring my old X-rays?
They are helpful but not required. Previous records help Dr. Lee understand your history and compare changes over time. Because she performs her own assessment with a digital scan and X-rays or CT, she can still give a full opinion if you do not have them.
