What Happens at a First Orthodontic Consultation?
Short answer
At a first orthodontic consultation at Isu Yonsei Baro Orthodontics, you have digital scans, X-rays or a 3D CT and photos taken, then Dr. Sally Lee examines your teeth, bite and jaw herself. The visit takes about 60 minutes and ends with findings, treatment options, a timeline and a written estimate in English before you decide anything.
Before your visit
You can book by phone (+82 2-592-2080), email (isu.ysbaro@gmail.com), WhatsApp, KakaoTalk or Naver Booking. It helps to bring:
- Any previous orthodontic records, X-rays or treatment notes
- Your retainers, if you had treatment before
- A list of medications or medical conditions
- Your insurance details, if you plan to claim
- Your expected stay in Seoul, if you might relocate
Step 1: Your goals and history
The consultation starts with a conversation. What bothers you about your teeth or bite? Have you had orthodontic treatment before? Are there time constraints, such as a wedding, graduation or move?
Step 2: Diagnostic records
- Intraoral digital scan. A small handheld scanner creates a 3D model of your teeth. No goopy impressions.
- X-rays or 3D CBCT. The RAY Quantum 5D CT shows roots, bone and jaw structure.
- 3D facial scan. The RAY Face scanner captures facial proportions, where relevant.
- Photos of your face and teeth.
- Growth analysis for children and teens, using a skeletal maturity analysis program.
Step 3: Examination by Dr. Lee
Dr. Sally Chaekyung Lee, a Ministry of Health and Welfare certified orthodontic specialist, examines your teeth, bite, gums and jaw joint, and reviews the images with you. She looks at teeth, roots, skeleton and whole-face balance, not just alignment.
Step 4: Options, timeline and estimate
Dr. Lee explains your diagnosis and the realistic options, which may include Invisalign, Angel Aligner, metal, ceramic or lingual braces, full or limited treatment, or simply monitoring. You receive an estimated timeline and a written estimate in English. There is no need to decide on the day.

People also ask
Do I need a referral from a dentist?
No referral is needed. You can book a consultation directly with Isu Yonsei Baro Orthodontics. If you have recent dental X-rays or records from a general dentist, bring them along, as they can be helpful.
Will I get a price at the first visit?
Yes. After Dr. Lee examines you and reviews your scans and X-rays, you receive a written estimate in English along with your options and timeline. Fees cannot be quoted from photos because they depend on your specific case.
Can treatment start on the same day?
The first visit focuses on diagnosis and explanation. Treatment, such as bonding braces or ordering aligners, usually begins at a later appointment once you have decided. There is no pressure to commit on the day.
Is the consultation in English?
Yes. Dr. Sally Lee speaks fluent English and personally conducts the consultation and every explanation in English, from diagnosis to treatment options and the written estimate.
